Using Olive Oil in Your Beauty Routine
Written by contributor Tiffany Larson of Mommy Goes Green.
Our kitchens have several ingredients we can safely use in our personal care routine. One of my favorites is olive oil because it’s healthy, inexpensive and can replace so many beauty products.
Here are seven easy ways to use olive oil in your daily beauty routine:
1. Body Moisturizer
When I was pregnant, I would moisturize my burgeoning body parts after every shower with a homemade mixture of olive oil and water. I kept it in a spray bottle so it was easy to mist myself and then rub it in. I did smell like olive oil for a couple minutes but it went away quickly. My skin felt soft and well cared for.
2. Shaving Cream
You can use a spray bottle of olive oil in the shower as a moisturizer before shaving. I find you have to have to rinse your razor more frequently but using olive oil keeps my sensitive skin from irritation and stubble free.
3. Eye Makeup Remover
A dab of olive oil on a cotton ball or Q-Tip is a gentle way remove eye makeup. It’s a great moisturizer for the delicate undereye area, as well. I also like that it doesn’t have any chemicals that are absorbed into my skin or eyes.
4. Body Exfoliator
Olive oil mixed with sugar is a great body exfoliator. Mix 1/2 cup of raw sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar and pour olive oil over the top, mixing well. By adding a few drops of essential oils or a spice such as cinnamon, you’ll have a great smelling, inexpensive spa experience at home.
5. Cuticle Cream
A little olive oil goes a long way on your cuticles. I use a Q-Tip to dab a little oil on my cuticle and then use my pinky finger to rub it in.
6. Frizz Control
For us curly haired girls, frizz control is a must. The moisturizing properties of olive oil are perfect for our dry tresses but I admit I haven’t been brave enough to try this. I’d love to know if you have!
7. Bath Oil
By adding a few drops of olive oil in your warm bath water, you will come out with soft, supple skin. I love that I can save a little time in my day by skipping the post-bath moisturizing.
