Ep. #16: Hot Mess with Hummus
I’m super stoked to share with you this episode of the podcast, because I’m talking with my good friends Brady and Amber Black, who both do two really cool jobs. Their main gig is helping run a home in Beirut, Lebanon for abandoned and refugee kids from all over that area (Syria, Palestine, and what-not), yet they also run an art business called Serious Creatures.
We talk about their day-to-day life running a home for 70 (that’s seventy!) kids who need so much love and attention, and how they handle the overwhelming need and emotional turmoil their work could easily create. We also talk about their business, selling and innovating Brady’s art online that so many of us back here enjoy. They just ended a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for really creative art books, so we talk about how they juggle running a business mostly stateside while living in the trenches of hard stuff in Lebanon.
These two people are so much fun—they’ve got a great sense of humor, they have a great outlook on life, and they’ve taught me so much about leaning into your gifts, letting your everyday life overflow with purpose, and keeping a down-to-earth sense of humor about all the crazy. You can’t help but love these two.
(Psst…. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ve got an extra clue as to the meaning behind their business name. Combine it with their last name.)
