Weekend links (& Project Simplify details!)

The winners of the Pip & Bean giveaway are: Julie B., Katie S., Ashley, Tracy Compaan, and Jodie. Congrats! You’ll be contacted soon.

Are you ready? Project Simplify starts tomorrow!

I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work on my home. We don’t have a lot of stuff, and I declutter regularly—but I still feel the need to get my game on every spring and refresh our living space. Up for joining me? Read more about Project Simplify.

Tomorrow we’re starting with kids’ stuff—clothes, toys, books, games, whatever. If you don’t have kids at home, no worries. Instead, focus on your own personal stuff—your wardrobe, your jewelry, or whatever you keep in your master bedroom.

How photo sharing will work

You’ll have four options for sharing your before and after photos on Friday and Saturday of each week:

1. Link up your own blog.

If you have a blog, share your process, your thoughts, and your before and after photos there. Then link to your post on my Friday posts—you’ll see where to link at the end. Sound confusing? Don’t worry; it’ll be clear what to do this next Friday.

2. Use Instagram.

On Instagram with your iPhone? Awesome; sharing your photos will be really easy. Simply upload your photos on Instagram, caption the photo to let us know if it’s a before or after shot, and—this is important—tag it with the hashtag #projectsimplify1. Or, if it’s week 2, use the hashtag #projectsimplify2, and so on. Don’t worry; I’ll remind you of the hashtag each week.

That’s it! It’ll show up on Friday’s post in a gallery.

3. Use Twitter.

If you’re on Twitter, upload your before and after photos in tweets, using the hashtag #projectsimplify1 for week 1 (and #projectsimplify2 for week 2, as mentioned above). That’s it as well! Your tweets will show up in the post.

4. Upload your photos directly.

No blog or Instagram? No worries. You’ll be able to upload your photos directly to the post. At the end of the post you’ll see a spot to upload your before and after shots. I’ll explain how on each post.

I’m looking forward to doing all this with you! Just think of the result—at the end of March, your home will be more peaceful. Sounds nice, no?

  1. I’m in and I just blogged about it to try and get some of my peeps to join in as well. There’s safety in numbers. LOL!

  2. I’m having a baby on the 22nd, but until then, I’m in!!

  3. I am so excited! My blogging gals on Parenting Without A Parachute are each taking a week for the challenge. I am super excited and hope our readers take the challenge too! -elizabeth

  4. I was in your session at Blissdom, and I love those notes on dear heARTists! Mine captured your points, I think, but they don’t look half as interesting 🙂

  5. I’m in! I had just started my blog when I found Project Simplify last year, and it was SO helpful to me to have that encouragement and community as I started on my blogging/decluttering journey. I’m looking forward to this year!

And I love that quote at the end of your post!

  6. I did this a couple weeks ago. I recently quit my evening job and have felt like the house has suffered since I’ve been working. I did 1-2 rooms every day until I got all of them de-cluttered and cleaned out. I have 2 cabinets that I still need to tackle but it feels good having the house freshly spring cleaned! =)

  7. I’m in! We are moving in 2 weeks, so I’ll do what I can with our temporary stuff for now. Then we’ll have less to take to our new home. Then when we move in, I’ll have all our unpacking to do, and I”ll declutter as I go! I’m looking at it as starting with a blank slate. Hopefully I will move into the house starting uncluttered and be able to keep it that way!

  8. I’m in! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how it’s time again to simplify, clear out and get organized.

  9. I’m ready! I went through my whole house, snapping pictures and taking notes. My BEFORE pictures are on my blog now. (I’ve only been at this for a few weeks, so I hope I did it right) I figure if I’m going to do it, I might as well be completely open and honest. Thank you!

  10. Thanks for the weekend link. I’ve marked the page about writing an effective “about” page; it is something I’ve been putting off.

It was interesting reading the post about your message, Tsh. I can’t argue with your thoughts – especially since you are so good at what you do. However, I want to point out that I made the purposeful choice TO LEAP into blogging, fully aware of being out of my element. I knew that if I waited to feel like I knew what I was doing – or had it all perfectly planned out in my mind/heart – that I’d never start. I hope to improve, grow, learn over time even if my baby blog is imperfect in its current state 🙂 (well, I’m sure it’ll always remain imperfect).

  11. I am excited to follow along with you! I have been on a rampage trying to declutter & simplify since I picked up your book. It’s been slow going, I have a lot to learn & teach myself. Also trying to develop a routine to make this stuff easier! Thanks for the inspiration to keep plugging!

  12. I’m excited! I just got out 2T handmedowns last week…and the smaller stuff is piled everywhere, as are toys/diapers/etc. Time to reorganize the kiddo’s closet!

  13. Im in too – apart of my new me self promise was to organise this household.

  14. I took my before pictures yesterday morning of both kiddos closets. The consignment sale that I regularly participate in is the last week of march, maybe this year i’ll have everything tagged early! That’s my goal, going through all the clothing & toys to decide what goes to the sale/donation, what gets saved and what goes in the trash.

  15. Doing it!

  16. Okay…I am ready and excited…but I need help before I even get started! I have a 3 year old and am expecting my second in the summer…I have about 12-14 buckets of baby/toddler stuff and is filling entire spare room and I don’t know what to do with it…do I sort and purge it or do I hold onto for the next 3 years in the event that I have another boy and need it!??! Or do I risk rebuying things?

  17. Yes yes yes!! Watch less TV! Find your quiet centre!

I’m always saying this to my in real life friends – they have “busy offs”, like it’s a competition. They complain that they don’t have time for this, or that, or baking, or committees, or a coffee with their mum… But they do have time for the Real Housewives of Anywhere marathon. And at the end of all that TV they are left feeling empty and unfullfilled, and stressed from all the overstimulation, the conspicuous consumption, and the things they procrastinated about while they sat.

    Switch off and live!

  18. I’m in! I’m sooooooo in! I’m even going to avoid the thrift store tomorrow in a show of solidarity!

  19. I just caught the tail end of this last year, but this year we’re IN! Just posted about it to get my readers involved as well : http://www.hellobluebird.net/time-to-clean-house-eh/

The scary part will be posting the “before’s” of my kids’ rooms–yikes!!

  20. I cannot wait to get home from work and start purging! Yay for decluttering inspiration!

  21. Tracy Compaan says:

I’m so excited for winning one of the capes from Pip & Bean! Thank you so much Tsh for holding the giveaway. I’m just trying to decide which one to order! And I’m definitely in with Project Simplify!

  22. I am in too! I have posted my before picks of my first weeks project THE PANTRY! I have encouraged my readers and facebook friends to join as well. Exciting and thank you for the idea and encouragement!.

  23. i’m going to participate but giving the disclaimer now that my “before” and “after” pics may not be strikingly different. but they will be improved 🙂 please pray my 2yo and 7mo old daughters cooperate 🙂

  24. I’m totally inspired by this project. My house is small, and relatively excess-stuff-free, but it’s disorganized to the max. I do not advise that any mortal open any closet in this apartment. So, I’m doing something about that! http://www.expatriababy.com/2012/03/66366.html
