Today’s weekend giveaway comes from sponsor Lil’ Soak, a little company that’s “sewing hope with handmade goods.” They are a fair trade marketplace curating or designing stylish products through small artisans groups who share the same mission and values.
A portion of the sales of each good will journey back to the artisan groups to help fund education, shelter, health, food and micro-loans.
Lil’ Soak‘s co-founder, Sonya, loved creating and making things as a young child, which still holds true today. After a few years working in the corporate world as an analyst, she started making things, selling them, and giving back some of the profits to a charity. In 2004, she went on a volunteer trip to Northwest China, and was moved to do something, rather than passively giving.
Tim, the other co-founder, went to Davao, Philippines in 2007, and once he was there, there, it was unlike anything he expected. He knew he had to do something to try and make a difference, but he knew that to make a difference in something so big, it was going to take something sustainable, something that grew naturally, something between a business and a non-profit. Something like Lil’Soak.
You can currently shop for jewelry, bags, and more from Africa, China, Cambodia, India, or the Philippines. And with every purchase made, you’re supporting the amazing work done by a variety of organizations—you can read more about them at Lil’ Soak’s blog.
