Mother’s Day Getaway giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed. Check here for the winner!

I‘m sure it won’t surprise you that I love to travel. I actually love to fly as well, especially if it’s sans toddlers — doesn’t happen often, so it’s a real treat. So I’ve got a fun surprise to celebrate Mother’s Day again. How would you like to get away… for free?

I’ve got two Southwest Airlines round-trip tickets to give away to a Simple Mom reader! You can use them for anywhere Southwest Airlines flies. Fun, eh? I’d use the tickets this fall to head to either or Boston or Providence so Kyle and I could drive to Martha’s Vineyard for our anniversary — it’s where we honeymooned.

Southwest Airlines is also throwing in some souvenirs (or in-flight entertainment) for the kiddos—a Southwest Flight Attendant Doll, an Airport Playset, and the LUV’ed onesie courtesy of Southwest Airlines.

Here are the contest rules.

  1. I love flying Southwest! We just took a trip to Texas (my toddler & I) in February and it was great. I liked getting to choose your seat, the free baggage check, and everyone on the Southwest team was extra helpful to me (flying alone with a baby). I feel like they went above and beyond. Thanks for the chance to win!

    • Oops, I forgot to say I’d fly to either NC to see my parents, Texas to see my brother & his family, OR Florida to go to Disney World for a family vacation (next year??). Thanks!

  2. aimee c. says:

    i just tweeted!

  3. Michele says:

I love that we can check two bags per person. We rarely do, but I love know that we can for free. Like every airline used to.

We’re not flying so much these days ourselves (got a little TSA boycott going on) but I’d use the tickets to fly my parents out to our next city – New Orleans!

  4. I really appreciate being able to pre-board with the little kiddos and have some extra time getting down the ramp (folding that stroller!) and picking out the perfect seats. Yes, choosing the seat we want (close to the front) is a huge bonus too. We love SW airlines! I hope I win so I can go visit my family this summer.

  5. I tweeted (@mrscchowds)!

  6. NW Homesteader says:

The fares and destinations available are great! I would probably fly to alaska to visit family! depends on where the whim would take me 🙂

  7. Honestly I’ve never flown Southwest because they dont service where my family lives but I’ve always heard they are great with families which makes me want to use them if the chance ever comes up. I’d probably fly to Hawaii with the hubby for a well deserved vacation.

  8. Hi Tsh. I just found you from TodaysMama. I like Southwest because they keep there rates affordable. I would love to go to the Pacific Northwest or maybe up to the New England states.

Thanks for giving me the chance to win a much need break. Hugs…Tracy 🙂

  9. I just tweeted Tsh.

    Thanks for another entry.
    Tracy 🙂

  10. I’m a new subscriber via email. I’d love you to stop by my blog sometime and would be thrilled to have you follow.

    Thanks, have a great day…Tracy 🙂

  11. Janice says:

It’s been a long time since I’ve flown Southwest — but I recall them being efficient! No big bells and whistles to slow me down — just smile, take care of my business, and show me to my seat.
If I were to travel, I’d go back to Cancun where we celebrated our honeymoon!

  12. I love that parents with kids board first and don’t have reserved seating so that no one is unpleasantly stuck next to me and my child. Plus the flight attendants are pretty awesome.

  13. Jennifer T says:

I think the prices and ease of their website have made Southwest a plus in my book. I would probably use the tickets to fly to Phoenix or Las Vegas to see family and then head on out to Utah for a little getaway at the cabin!

  14. I love the free luggage and I just love their friendly service. I would go just about anywhere! This Mom of 3 loves to travel but doesn’t get to very often! Happy Mother’s Day!

  15. Hana K. says:

I’ve never flown southwest before but seeing some of the commets, it sounds great! I’d love tickets to visit my parents so they could see their first grandchild.

  16. The best thing about Southwest is their customer service – always so friendly. I would go to Napa Valley (if they fly there) or anywhere in New England. I haven’t been to either, and I’d love to take a trip after the baby weans.

  17. Sherry Lebow says:

I love their low air fares and that they don’t charge for baggage.
I would probably go to Florida to visit family or Montana because hubby and I love it there

  18. I love the free baggage, especially since we’re usually traveling with kids. Southwest is our go-to airline. We’ve always had good experiences with them.
Where would I go? Probably San Diego to visit family. Living in Kentucky now we don’t get there often.

  19. Michelle Y says:

I’ve never actually flown Southwest, though I want to. I like that they don’t charge baggage fees. Babies=lots of stuff=need to check a bag.

  20. I tweeted the giveaway. @Jess_Reflects

  21. I LOVE that luggage is free! I would fly to visit my sister in Colorado. Got to get in one more vacation before baby #3 arrives!

  22. Catherine says:

I have never flown Southwest, so I love that it would be a brand new adventure. I would love to go to San Diego.

  23. Yevette says:

I love that SW is offering these tickets! I would fly to DC! Thanks for the chance to win!

  24. I don’t fly very often, but when I do, I fly Southwest – they fly to the destinations I want and they’re usually the cheapest. Plus they have great customer service!

  25. Lori S H says:

I love flying Southwest! I love the fact that they still have no baggage fees and manage to keep ticket prices very affordable! In addition, the aircrafts are always clean and well maintained!

  26. I love how funny the people who work for Southwest are. Very efficient too!! I would fly to Salt Lake City (home) because I’m homesick and miss my mom! 🙂

  27. Bridget =) says:

I love that they don’t charge for baggage, and every time I’ve flown w/ Southwest, the flight attendants are so nice and seem like they are having FUN at their job! =)

  28. Mary Mom says:

Southwest has the best customer service and affordable tickets. I fly frequently to visit my grandkids which is where I would go if I won these tickets. Nashville here I come!

  29. I love Southwest. When my son was 18 months we were flying from New York to Arizona, LONG day. There was a medical emergency and we had to stop in Fort Worth to get a traveler to medical attention. Then we had to wait for another oxygen bottle to be brought to the plane and the first aid kit refilled. We sat on the plane for over an hour. Everyone was so gracious with my now extremely fussy toddler. All the passengers and flight attendants helped me corral him and allow him to toddle up and down the isle. At one point one of the flight attendants carried him around on her hip as she passed out snacks and checked that everyone was doing okay.
Southwest helped one very stressed out new mommy cope with what could have been a very unpleasant flying with a toddler experience.

I’d use the tickets to fly to Arizona from Upstate New York to visit all our family. Husband and Mine all out there. We on the other hand are stuck here for now.

  30. Of course I love Southwest since they have no baggage fees! Makes traveling with my little boy much nicer.

I would probably fly to Columbus, OH to visit family!

  31. I love their commercials. I would love to fly home to see my Mom in Texas. Or maybe a special trip with hubby anywhere!

  32. Lauren says:

I love Southwest’s customer service. I have always had a pleasant experience on their flights. I would use the tickets to go somewhere warm for our anniversary!! 🙂

  33. You know, I travel so infrequently that I don’t think I’ve ever flown with Southwest! (I think I’ve flown 4 times in my whole life, and those were all high school and college) I would love to give them a try though! It’s been so long since I’ve had a vacation of any sort, I’m torn between going someplace I’ve been before and loved, such as the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, or someplace totally new such as Alaska, Hawaii, the East Coast, even Florida…

  34. LOVE LOVE LOVE Southwest. They are the only airline we use. First of all, they are usually cheaper. It’s easy. I like the way they do seating. They fly to all the places or areas we want. You don’t have to pay for luggage. You don’t have to pay a fee to change your flight except if there’s a change in the flight fee. They are just AWESOME! Two tickets? What could be better? 🙂

  35. bryssy says:

Southwest is awesome because they treat my kids with respect and like actual people. We would totally go to San Francisco for my cousin’s wedding this summer, right now it’s too expensive for us to go!

  36. We almost always fly southwest because they have very competitive prices, and we’ve always been pleased with the pleasantness of the staff!

We would fly out to Seattle, where we love to be, and then trip up to Vancouver, BC to see from friends and family.

    Sarah M

  37. Ten Ten says:

I love cheap fares! I’d probably fly out to the southwest (from the southeast) to visit family!

  38. Wow!! Tsh, you are the best. My family is flying Southwest for the first time in a few days and we couldn’t be more excited. It will be the first flight for both my boys (ages 2 and 4) and they can’t wait. Southwest recently started flying out of our community (Charleston, SC) and it has done wonders for us. Lots of excitement about lower fares. We got a great deal on our upcoming direct flight to Chicago. I mean really, great deal + direct flight + large plane – it doesn’t get much better. Except maybe an “adults only” trip won here! Thanks 🙂

  39. Jennifer says:

Southwest has friendly flight attendants. Always a pleasant trip. I’d probably take my DH and getaway to a destination that is new to us.

  40. No charging for baggage!

  41. My favorite thing about flying SOUTHWEST is ….getting out of the midwest on the cold, cold, long winters once and a while.

  42. Brandi S. says:

I love their customer service towards family! Anytime we’ve ever flown with them with our kids they always let us board first to give us time to get settled in. Love that! It’s been so rainy here in KY the past month that I would definitely go someplace warm and sunny if we won!!

  43. Honestly, I don’t think I have ever flown Southwest. The last time I was on a plane was in 1999! However, I would love Southwest if they wanted to give me two plane tickets! I would probably use them to go visit my sister and her family. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  44. Rebekah says:

I love Southwest because of their amazingly friendly service! They always have a smile and are so laid back. I have told my husband that they are my only preference for flying, thoug we hardly ever get away any more! 🙂 (okay, NEVER!) If I won, I would probably want to plan a getaway for my husband and I and the location would be determined at that point! 🙂

  45. Kyle H says:

I love that Southwest takes me away! I would love to head south…it’s been such a cold, rainy spring here in NY, someplace warm & wonderful would be amazing!

  46. I love their non-stop flights to visit my new grandson!

  47. Brandi S. says:

    Tweeted this too 🙂

  48. yay best giveaway ever! i love that bags are free because i always forget about that until the night before flying. and choosing your own seat is really nice with kids. right now i’d go to the beach. almost any beach as long as it was warmish and our only job was to enjoy it!

  49. Kelley L. says:

Love the fares and family friendly flying! Would head up to Providence, RI and take a New England trip (where we used to live) to escape the summer heat we have down south!

  50. Carmen says:

I adore SWA. There are so many reasons why I love this airline, it is tough to pick just one. I’ll say it is the in-flight entertainment. How many airlines encourage passengers to play games to pass the time? On nearly every coast to coast flight I’ve done with SWA, the flight attendants have arranged some pallor game to keep passengers amused. Fantastic.

  51. Ive never flown southwest. But they are about to come to our airport, I guess I might fly to Boston this fall for a friends wedding. Thanks for the chance to win

  52. Nicole Dufendach says:

I love the priority they give to families and how helpful they are to mothers flying alone! The destinations are endless….but vacation will be involved!

  53. I love the FUN Southwest puts into their jobs! I would live to fly someplace warm with my hubby for our 20th next fall!

  54. katie greenlaw says:

I love how they are so kid friendly. I’d fly to California to visit family. It kills me living on the other side of the country and that my parents don’t get to see my 9 month old son very often.

  55. AmyMpls says:

I love that Southwest entered our market in Minneapolis and helps drive down the cost of flying to places like Chicago and AZ. I’d love to win so I could take my hubby to AZ and on to the Grand Canyon. LOVE it.

  56. I love that there is no reserved seating and I can usually get an early number for boarding. My family only flies Southwest so i don’t have anything to compare it to. I would visit my mom who lives across the country from me. I miss her.

  57. Lauren says:

I’d fly to Portland, OR to see my brother and his wife. I’ve never been there yet. Free Bags is amazing!

  58. I love the friendly service! We would go to the Pacific Northwest — either Seattle or Portland. I’ve always wanted to see that part of the country.

  59. Southwest is a fun, reasonably-priced airline and is the only way I fly.

  60. I’ve actually always loved flying Southwest. They’re not ridiculous re: bag checking and have always been very polite.

  61. melissa says:

I love their customer service and cheaper airfares!

  62. I love that I could fly nonstop from providence to Chicago, that they don’t charge for baggage, and frankly, that they are always so friendly!

I would fly to visit my friend in chicago, because we don’t see each other nearly enough.

  63. I love being able to change tickets. Flexibility makes travel plans so much easier!

  64. Merrill says:

The friendly flight attendants! I would fly to Destin…

  65. kristin says:

Southwest flight attendants are funny! They always seem to really enjoy what yhey are doing. This makes traveling with little ones so easy.

  66. Shannon Moorman says:

I’ve never flown on Southwest, but I’d love to have the chance to try! My husband is a marathon runner, and I just signed up to run my first half marathon in September, even though the furthest I can go right now is between 3 and 5K and my body is NOT a runner’s body. I would sign him up for a marathon and use the tickets to get us there where I could cheer him on and be inspired myself!

    Happy Mother’s Day!

  67. Hayden Dunn says:

I’ve never been able to fly Southwest, but would love to take a little trip to either New York or San Diego. I hear great things about the airline and am excited that they are coming to my market soon.

  68. I love that they don’t charge for baggage – with kids, the bags pile up fast! They are also so friendly. I’d go somewhere later this year where there is snow.

  69. Our best/funniest/only Southwest experience was a few years ago we went to Florida to stay at a relative’s condo. Our oldest (6 at the time) was given a small glass of Sprite to drink for a treat. Since he doesn’t/didn’t drink soda much ever his little kidney bean sized bladder went into overdrive. In our 2 hour flight he and my husband visited the little bathroom no less than twenty times. By the end of the flight the people in the back of the plane knew him, gave him high fives and cheered his name. It was hysterical. My husband assured me it wasn’t for show – he really went to the bathroom EVERY TIME. By the end he was able to meet the pilots and the stewardess took the kids up to the cockpit and gave them a tour of their little cabinets and jump seats. They made the trip wonderful. That being said – this time around I’d like to fly solo with my husband. We’re practical people – so after 11 years of marriage it would nice to go somewhere by ourselves and celebrate! I’d love to go to Maine or Vermont – somewhere green and peaceful and quiet!

  70. I would love to fly to the Boston area or take the kids to Disney.

  71. I like the boarding policy with no assigned seats but an assigned time to board. I would fly to the west coast to stay with my parents with my kiddos while my husband leads a four-week study abroad tour with college students this summer.

  72. I love the free luggage and the seats on Southwest. I would visit my grandchildren with free tickets. Can’t see them enough, only get to once or twice a year.

  73. It’s been a long time since I flew Southwest, but I remember the flights to be smooth and the atmosphere relaxed. I believe I’d fly to Seattle or New York with my hubby – he loves the big cities and it would be a nice change from our little beach town in Florida.

    What a GREAT giveaway!!

  74. Southwest has great fares. We would love to use the tickets for a romantic get-away. The debt snowball plan has put the squeeze on our travel funds – but it’s SO worth it! ~ G

  75. I honestly don’t know where I would go, but my husband and I have a 10-year anniversary coming up that these would be great for. Right now, my top suggestions would be someplace up East (like Boston) or I would love to go to Savannah are Charleston – somewhere very old and southern. : )

  76. Stacey says:

Unfortunately, I have never flown Southwest Airlines, basically because I don’t ever have an opportunity to fly. If the five of us cannot drive there, we don’t go. I would love to visit my brother in California, however. I’ve never been able to visit him.

  77. Peggy Nagy says:

I love the opportunity to explore some place away from home, to shake things up. I have not flown Southwest recently with kids but reading some of the comments makes me think they are doing a good job. They are also very generous. They support my friend’s ministry and fly families with a terminally ill parent free to a free getaway from her ministry. They have been such a blessing.

  78. I just flew Southwest over Easter weekend for a visit to my daughter and granddaughter in Texas. Everything went fine and Southwest did an excellent job. If I win this giveaway, I’ll use the tickets to visit my two other children and three grandchildren in Seattle. (And my grandchildren would love the souvenirs!)

  79. I love that they don’t charge for baggage!

  80. Hannah Gardner says:

I love that Southwest is so laid back and entertaining to their customers. My husband and I would take a much needed break, possibly heading to the west coast! 🙂

  81. Jennifer Richardson says:

The price is probably my favorite thing, as a mom, needing to buy an extra ticket for my son (and soon another child). I would either fly to CA to visit my best friend or maybe take a just-our-family vacation – very rare – before baby #2 arrives in September. Great giveaway!

  82. Well, I’ve never flown Southwest, so I’d just have to go on what I’ve heard- and that’s that they’re cheap. Definitely a good thing. 🙂 And I’m not sure where we’d fly- possibly the Caribbean? That sounds pretty awesome right now.

  83. Heather says:

Great service! I’d fly to FL or Vegas!

  84. As a mom, I love that Southwest does not charge for bags, because with kids comes bags and carseats and bags. I also love them, because they pay attention. I was flying alone with my 2 and 5 year old children for a funeral on Southwest recently. My 2 year old got sick and the flight attendants were so attentive and helpful. On a trip to the restroom with one of them, the flight attendants noticed that I had to get out of my seat and took some entertainment to the child left behind. Go Southwest! If I won tickets, I would fly to the ocean. We lived 1 mile from the ocean before kids and moved away to save money. I haven’t been back since!

  85. Eleanor says:

I actually flew Southwest for the first time this past month. When I arrived at the airport the lines were so long I almost had a heart attack but they just installed those new self serve terminals at DIA so I was thru in no time! whew!

  86. Stephanie says:

My favorite thing about flying Southwest is familiarity and good deals. When my husband and I were engaged, we should have bought stock in it! We’d always use Southwest to fly back and forth to see each other. That was 14 years and 4 kids ago!

    • Stephanie says:

Forgot to add, I think we’d fly to the east coast. We’ve never been there.

  87. Eleanor says:

Tweet! Tweet! Tweet! What a awesome and generous give away! Thank you simple Mom!

  88. i love that they let you actually Check BAGS for free! unlike most airlines now~! i think i would fly to seattle, my hubby has never been there and i love it

  89. Katherine says:

My favorite part is all the baggage you can bring for free – when we flew with our toddler, we had 2 suitcases, pack and play, carseat, and stroller, and we didn’t have to pay extra for any of it!

  90. Friendly service! If I got the tix, I’d fly from Chicago to Phoenix, so I could support a dear friend when she delivers her baby later this summer! 🙂 What a special gift that could be!

  91. Jennifer says:

Those Southwest folks are so friendly and helpful, which is important when traveling with a small child. I would fly to California to see family.

  92. Stephanie says:

Ok, I tweeted (?) it, but I’m not sure if it counts because I only follow like 3 people.

  93. Kimberly says:

My hubby and I never took a honeymoon b/c of finances. This coming January will mark our 10th anniversary and we were planning on taking a trip together to celebrate, until we found out we’re expecting our 4th babe in Oct!! So, needless to say, the funds have been rerouted. 🙂 What a blessing it would be to be able to surprise him with a trip to Alaska, a place my hubby has always wanted to visit!! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  94. I love that I can catch a flight semi-nearby and they have direct flights to several places I have needed to go. I would go somewhere warm….with palm trees!!! 🙂

  95. Hmm…definitely a toss-up between choosing seats for my family and the two checked bags. When traveling with toddlers, those bags really stack-up! Especially when visiting my family in Arizona. I would definitely fly to Tucson!

  96. I love that they’re so laid back. I’d go to NYC!

  97. I tweeted the giveaway @nomadiccharm

  98. I love their quality service–friendly and helpful!

  99. I haven’t flown Southwest since I became a mom but I’ve always had great experiences with them! As it’s starting to warm up in Florida I would fly somewhere nice and cool 🙂
