The quest for personal style…it can be hard, right? As an artist I really believe that another form of art, a way of expressing ourselves, is through our style. The way we dress and meet the world daily, the way people see us…this is all a form of art, a form of who we are. But it can be hard to find!
I am no fashion guru, but do know what I like. Here are my simple, inexpensive ways to look stylish (and find your style!):
Finding Your Personal Style
A plain t-shirt with jeans or a skirt can go a long way with a fabulous headband or a statement bracelet. Even just simple makeup and a white tee can be really beautiful. You can decide if you want to look more girlie and feminine or if you want it to be a bit more artsy/grungy and accessorize based on your style direction for the day.
2. Make a board on Pinterest
Pinterest is fabulous for seeking out style inspiration. Sometimes it helps to just see your outfits planned out in visual form and then making those a reality when you walk in your closet! I have an inspiration board called style where I pin outfits and looks that I would love to recreate. Many times you will look an outfit you love and realize that you have similar pieces and it would be easy to recreate without spending a dime!
3. Simplicity is always a go-to classic
Start simple, then add your style or flare to the “classics”. A classic skirt, plain tee, black pants- all of these can be just be staples in your closet and then you can add your own flare or style with an accessory or more statement pieces.
4. Don’t be afraid to be outside the box
I know that I dress different. I am not trying to be a style expert. I just like expressing myself in a way that makes me happy. I love bright colors, I love headbands and belts. I like wearing clothes that reflect how I feel. Everyone should feel free to do this. Don’t be afraid to dress differently!
5. Know yourself
Expressing yourself through your style is a way that you can tap into a range of who you are. Your tastes, likes, interests, personality — channeling that all into the way you dress. Don’t be afraid to express style through uniqueness and individuality.
So, this is a start! Take the quest to find your personal style. Seek inspiration and don’t be afraid to express yourself in a way that feels like “you”!
