Do you have a Life List?

This giveaway is now closed. Check back soon for the results!

I‘m not huge on bucket lists. Not because I don’t think they’re motivating and useful—they are—but I don’t like the stigma associated with the idea that your life is less than until you do those things. Not true at all.

But I have wanted to write an actual bucket list for a long time now. Ideas have rattled around in my head for ages, but I admittedly have never written anything down. And actually, I prefer the term Life List. Seems less morbid.

Until now. I’ve finally written the first draft of my list.

These are things that I’d love a chance to do. They’re not going to make my life complete—the more I travel, the more the bug bites, I’ve found—but by golly, our time on earth is short, and I like the idea of making the most of those days.

Do you have a bucket list of sorts?
I’d love to hear one of the items on your list, because I’ve got a great opportunity to give you. Read on.

  1. I want to ride an elephant! (and I want to drive a mini van)

  2. Mine is to live in the country!

  3. Danielle H says:

My bucket list right now is short..we are packing at this moment to move out of our house. We can not afford to live here anymore and are spending a few months… including the an RV in my moms property. I would say my bucket list now is:
*never let my 3 children go without the things they need
*make every day “the best day ever” as my kids say
*be Able to one day go back to school to study children psychology
That last one is a long term goal 🙂

  4. Chantel M says:

    Horseback riding on a beach!

  5. Travel to Germany!

  6. Mine is to start a photography business to pursue my passion, as well as contribute to our family income.

  7. to visit both my girls at the same time…

  8. I would love to learn how to quilt. I inherited my grandma’s collection of vintage tea towels, table cloths, doilies, hankerchiefs, and many other beautiful textiles. There are so many of them that I would love to make them all into one beautiful blanket to enjoy, but I haven’t the slightest idea where to start. 🙂

  9. Tess Ortega says:

    Visit all 50 states

  10. Yes! You should see Andrew Bird in concert. He’s great live!

I do keep a mental life list. And I feel grateful that I’ve actually accomplished things on it.

The big one on there is opening a restaurant. Also to see Radiohead live. Not sure which one will be more difficult. Ha!

Also to travel to Italy! To bike from LA to San Francisco! Write a cookbook! And it goes on…

  11. Okay I liked “just ask”

  12. Attending college and earning a degree (before my children do Haha). I’ve enrolled for Spring 2011 my first Semester at 36. Financial aid is undetermined yet so $500 would get me well on my way. Thanks for the opportunity to “cross one off” the list.

  13. I have a lot on my bucket list and I’ve been lucky to cross off a lot on my list.

But my fav one and I hope I get to do it one day is
Pay someone bill annoymously. I would love to help someone out who has a bill that they just can’t pay. Pure joy to my heart to help someone and them not knowing who did it.

    • Try your local Ronald McDonald house. Parents stay there while they’re kids are receiving treatment in the hospital. The houses ask for just $10/night, but when you’ve been there a month, plus medical bills, that really adds up! Just ask the front desk if you can pay for someone’s stay and the amount you’d like to give and I bet they’ll match you up!

  14. I’ve liked your fb page for over a year now 🙂 and I’ll cont. to do so!

  15. I want to visit all of the major league baseball parks with my husband.
And see the Packers play at Lambeau!

  21. Start an organic farm, educate my daughter at home, and do important things for my community!

  22. #1 on my bucket list: Become debt-free

  23. And I just “liked” Just Ask. Thanks. I’m going to need to take a few ideas from above to add to my list, don’t want to miss the little beautiful things like “riding horseback on the beach”! Thanks for the reminder to keep track of what I’d like to do and what I’ve accomplished.

  24. I now “like” Just Ask:)

  25. I would love to be able to help our kids pay for college. At the rate tuitions are rising, that’s not looking possible. :-\

  26. I want to take all 3 kids(currently 3 and under) to Disneyland.

  27. One thing on my bucket list is a “sister trip”. I would love to take a vacation, just my sister and me, to a place neither of us have ever been so we can explore together. She and I have never had good quality time together as adults (alone) but we have so many of the same interests and want to see so many of the same things, despite our 10 year difference in age and not really growing up together.

  28. I want to see Europe! 🙂

  41. Jenny Runyan says:

I like just ask on Facebook already:) perfect!

  42. I would like to go to Caneel with my mom before it’s too late.

  43. I’ve made my list just last month…and seeing the Northern Lights is high up on it. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl, and it still seems just as magical and exotic today as it was then.

  44. Among countless other things…
Take my daughter on a mission trip to a developing country. (Not to change those we visit, but to be changed – to learn again how luxury-laden our life is in the USA, and to learn what real needs are, and what simple joy looks like, and to open our eyes and hearts.)

  45. I have many on my list, but one that i’ve just started actively working on is “Get a Master’s Degree”. 🙂 I’m in the middle of my first semester!

  46. And I liked Just Ask on Facebook! 🙂

  47. I want travel to Siena, with my husband and daughter and take a picture under s Siena sign with my kiddo, Sienna – it’s her name sake. I also dream that instead of renting, my hubby and I can afford a little home of our own. Finally, I want my job to be something I live for and love to do – cooking heals my soul, calms and centers me and I am planning somehow to to open a food cart/truck!

  48. My life list all boils down to one thing – and that is to make sure my children know how loved they are. With that said, the number one thing on my list is to turn my blog (I’ve been writing entries since I got pregnant, and now my daughter is 2 and I have another on the way!) into a book for my sweet children to have. I want them to be able to read the good, the bad and the downright absurd stories I have recalled about our lives thus far.

  49. I want to dip my toes in the Atlantic Ocean, preferably off the coast of Maine. 🙂
Lots of other things, some important, some trivial, but that’s one of them, anyway!

  50. You have a great list. One thing on my ‘Life List’ (SUCH a better term!) is to write a book. And travel. Write a book while traveling, perhaps. 🙂 I would love to visit Israel, New Zealand, Australia, India, and Norway. And most of the rest of the world. 😉

  51. I want to write a book. I’m a Grandma, and I’ve wanted to write since I was 7 or8 yrs old.

  52. Write a book

  54. I liked Just Ask on FB – I’m intrigued about this test that they’re promoting. Now to read a little more 🙂

  55. Didn’t know there is a name for such things. Here are some of the things I’d like to do some day…

Go on a Disney Cruise with my family
    Learn to play an instrument
Go on a short-term mission trip
Write interesting lyrics for a familiar song
Sleep past 10 on a Saturday morning and my kids make me breakfast

    Have coffee with you 🙂

I am sure there is more but this is what I could think of right now.

And find a way to change the life of one kid in need of my help.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to review my list!! It was forgotten somewhere.

  69. Wildflower says:

I used to be obsessed with goals and accomplishments, pursuing them ruthlessly. This year, after accomplishing everything on my list and losing nearly everything in the process, I have decided that my new goal is simply this: to live every day joyfully in loving service to my family.

  70. Oh, and I just “liked” just ask! 🙂

    Happy Friday!

  71. Most recently, take my kids to see the Parthenon in Nashville!

  72. Liked on FB!

  73. I played the cello in 5th and 6th grade and I was pretty good. I stopped because I had severe migraine headaches and I got teased for carrying a big cello to school. I want to take up the cello again. I love the sound. My best song was Joy to the World. My dream is to learn how to play again and play Joy to the World at church. I follow you on FB too 🙂

  74. I would love to redecorate my living room to be functional, minimalist yet beautiful and welcoming. I also would love to go to school online to become a certified nutritionist. Another dream is writing a book. There are way too many to choose only one!

  75. Like you, Tsh, one of our’s is to build a home from scratch. Last year my husband and I designed our first house and he (a builder by trade) has spent the last 10 months building it for us. We move in two weeks! We blog about the whole journey at

    ~Adopt a child

  87. Attend the Oscars.

  88. just liked ask on fb too for 2nd entry…thx for contest

  89. I don’t really have a list – I’m just not organized enough to write one, I guess. 🙂 Right now what is looming large in my mind is a desire to rent or buy an RV and drive across the US & Canada with my children. It is something that will wait until they are a bit older, but I can’t think of a better way to learn about the country where they live than visiting as much of it as possible! xo

  90. I want to eat an entire pan of hot brownies without guilt. I don’t eat poorly all the time, but I can’t seem to do this one thing without self-condemnation!

  91. Run a marathon–I’ve run two half-marathons but it’s hard finding time for the real deal with 4 kids under 6!

  92. Anita Castaldo says:

A week-long vacation with the entire family – my parents, husbands parents, his sister and her family, my brother his family and our kids (and their families if they have their own by then) in a row of cabins in the Tennessee mountains.

  95. Beetnik Mama says:

A big one for me would be to attend pastry school. Actually, I’d be happy just to take a few pastry classes, but really being able to dive in, a la Julia Child (but in pastries), would be a dream come true!

  96. I keep a yearly list of the number before the age, (ex: this year it’s 26 things to do before 27) and it has really helped me focus on things I want to do/prioritize.
A LIFE list, though, that is a little harder. One of the biggest goals I have is to someday have a children’s book published!
